Bot Wars Edits

I am this close to finishing up the first round of Bot Wars edits and you know what that means.

It means I will have no idea what to do with myself.

It's a funny thing, edits. When you're in the middle of revising, you would rather be doing anything else other than revising (at least, that's how I generally feel), but once edits are done, you're left wondering what the heck you're supposed to do with your free time. My husband calls it Post Revision Stress Disorder. I think that sums it up perfectly.

It's like you've spent the last month or two months or however long you had fighting a mental war with yourself and your book and your characters who won't stop whining and brooding and turning around and looking at each other. And then when that war is over, you're thrust back into the real world and you have no idea how to function properly.

I can often be heard saying, "Is this real life?" after I've made a deadline.

And while I *should* be working on Altered #2, I think I'm going to take off at least a day or two. So here is what I plan (or hope) to do:

1. Watch lots of TV. Soooo many movies I want to see, both on DVD and at the theater. I won't know where to begin!

2. Read a bunch of books. My TBR pile is ridiculous. I keep buying books and not reading them. I currently have in the pile---

  • Blood Red Road
  • The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
  • Nightshade
  • The Fault in Our Stars
  • Eat, Pray, Love
  • Under the Never Sky
  • Jellicoe Road
  • The Pledge
  • Clockwork Angel (confession: I've never read a Cassandra Clare book)
  • The Scorch Trials
  • The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
And that's just the small pile near my desk. I have to stop buying books until I at least make it through these.

3. Redesign the blog. I've already started this by changing up the header and background. I still need to redo the graphics in the sidebar and I might add a page or two.

4. Get in a few good workouts. I would really love to build up my running endurance this year. That's one of my resolutions and I want to stick with it. I love running, and I've always wanted to be one, but just when I make it to that mile mark, I quit for various reasons.

5. Do something around the house. When I'm under deadline, the housework falls by the wayside. You don't even want to see my kids' rooms. The other night I went in to check on my daughter before bed and stepped into an easter basket, stumbled back and kicked a tricycle and then nearly banana-peel slipped on a book. RIDICULOUS.

So, those are the big plans. It's only a day or two, after all, so I don't want to plan anything major!

I'll have to report back with what I accomplished. Provided I did any of those things I listed. I could very well spend the two days sleeping. :D

  1. Hurray for almost being done with your edits! :D

It's definitely a weird feeling once revisions are done. It's like, you've been living-and-breathing that book forever, and now there's suddenly a break?! Craziness!

And, oh man, I can soooo relate to the TBR pile thing! Mine is HUGE (like, 100+). I really need to get around to making a dent in it one of these days....

BTW, I'm really liking the tweaks to your blog layout! Hope you managed to get heaps else done during your days off! :)

    1. Thanks Heather! Still a lot left to do on the blog, but I'm liking it so far. And I was in desperate need of a change!

And 100+ books in the TBR pile?! I think you have me beat!

    2. Birthdays and Borders' going-out-of-business sale helped make my TBR pile grow as much as it did. XD

Good luck with all the tweaking you still need to do for your blog! :)
